Kirsten’s Library
July 2023

A sign-painter out of urban Oregon and a librarian out of rural Washington melded minds for this bespoke trade: a personalized collection of 15 books in exchange for some heart-crafted library signage.

Criteria for Kirsten’s library prioritized female voices in literary fiction, avoided apocalypse content, and made sure to mix in elements of magical realism and youthful mystery. As in painting, so in writing, the inclusion of authors like Jesmyn Ward and Lucia Berlin were pointed. For this library, attention to detail and beautiful brush strokes were paramount.

Laurie’s Library
October 2023

Laurie’s library was built around many elements: rural living as a choice, queerness and survival, language and skill sharing. Special consideration was made to diagrams and classic illustration style as well, being that Laurie’s artwork often depicts our oldest and most tender ways.

This trade will always be a favorite of mine. My offering: a 15 book library. Laurie’s offering: read more knuckle tattoos. Not to mention talking books and drinking mimosas and cuddling pups while sitting for them. Thank you, Laurie, for the softest tats every time.
